Salifert Nitrate Test Kit
Nitrate Test Kit
The Salifert Nitrate Test Kit measures the extremely hazardous nitrate levels that build up in spaces which have been deprived of oxygen. High nitrate levels can lead to undesirable algae-growth and coral damage. The ideal nitrate concentration in a healthy reef system should be lower than 1 mg/L, but fish based aquariums may show drastically higher concentrations. Additionally, the unit is able to detect both small and large concentrations of nitrates. Unlike other nitrate testers, the Salifert Nitrate Test Kit is not impacted by the presence of amines. Contains ingredients that provide accurate and immediate readings.
When an aquarium has regions deprived of oxygen (= anaerobic zones) or denitrification proceeds incompletely then nitrate will build-up.
An overly high nitrate concentration can result in unwanted algae-growth which might irritate corals.
Nitrate also retards coral growth.
The nitrate concentration in a proper functioning reef aquarium should be lower than 1 mg/L. Fish-only aquariums would usually show much higher nitrate concentrations.
Most test kits use a procedure in which a certain part of nitrate is converted chemically into nitrite and is measured as such.
As with nitrite testing, amine interference has a major impact on the measured value. If such an interference occurs concentrations much lower than actual will be measured.
The Salifert nitrate test does not suffer from amine interference. The proprietary formula allows for a very fast and precise measurement
